Coonara Beekeeping Club – Annual Report
The club membership rose to 54 in 2015. With many members having multiple hives this probably represents at least 200 hives in our local area providing a range of benefits for the environment. In addition to monthly meetings the club also participated in the Stringybark Festival, two community information sessions at The Community Space @ Knox, an information stand at the Grassroots market at Kings Park in September, a presentation at Sherbrooke lodge and 2 beginners beekeeping courses. What difference does it make? Besides the wonderful and beneficial local honey that is produced, the bees provide valuable pollination services for local gardens and back-yard and commercial crops. Early Childhood Education training in remote communities of the Northern Territory – Annual Report
This three year-long project ended with 9 graduation ceremonies held between July and October. After 2,800 km in four wheel drives, 2 light plane flights, 6 Qantas flights and many exhausting and exhilarating days we presented34 certificates and 23 statements of attainment. Pledge Project
For the second year Coonara participated in The Sixteen day of Activism as part of this very important Community Development project. “FIVE Knox organisations have joined forces to push for gender equality. Women’s Health East, the Knox Learning Alliance, led by The Basin Community House, Knox Council, Eastern Community Legal Centre, and Eastern Access Community Health have come together to form the Knox PLEDGE group — People Linking to Embrace and Develop Gender Equality The global campaign runs until December 10, and community houses that are part of the KnoxLearning Alliance (including The Basin Neighbourhood House, Coonara Community House, Rowville Neighbourhood Learning Centre, Orana Neighbourhood House and Mountain District Learning Centre) are encouraging people to drop in and write a pledge on how they will encourage gender equality in the community.
